The Drunk Punk Workbook: A Step Working Guide to Getting Sober Without Gods or Masters
This thick workbook zine is an adaptation of the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program for people who are turned off by the religious aspects of AA, or who have only experienced the twelve steps through programs forced on them. The author's experience of addiction and recovery in prison led him to develop this workbook for anyone who is ready to do the brutal self-examination it takes to get and stay sober, and he shares his personal experience in the explanation of each step, followed by questions for you to reflect and write on at your own pace.
Secular 12 Steps: It adapts traditional 12-step programs for people who reject the religious or higher-power overtones of standard programs like Alcoholics Anonymous.
No Gods or Masters: The approach prioritizes personal agency, skepticism of outside control, and brutal self-examination.
Lived Experience: Spock developed the program while serving a prison sentence following a fatal drunk-driving crash, using his own journey to build a relatable tool for others.
Drunk Punk Recovery is a secular, punk-inspired addiction recovery framework and workbook created by licensed peer recovery specialist Tim Spock.

Alcohol never seemed like it was a big problem for the author... until one terrible day when he made a drunken mistake that killed two people. In prison, he stopped drinking but it took years to process what he'd done and how his choices had impacted those around him for his whole adult life. Being forced to go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings was a source of resentment rather than support until he came up with an alternative program that had room for his skepticism about the role of outside power, agency, and religion in his life. As a punk who always carves his own path, Spock shares those steps to taking control of your life here, as well as his own cautionary tale. Book by Tim Spock
